Hello, I'm the Gamer Doc, and I'm a delay gamer

It's true, it's true.  I am a self-confessed delay gamer.

What, you may ask, is a delay gamer?  Well, I think of delay gamers as people who still like to play quite a few games, we just like to delay getting and playing them.  I used to think I was more of a snail gamer.  You know, one who games so slowly that they get far behind.

But that really doesn't describe me.  Sure, there are times in my life when gaming is limited, and so it takes me longer than normal to progress in a game.  But that isn't the real reason I tend to play games sometimes months, sometimes even years after their release.

I just don't generally get games when they first come out.

Take Mass Effect 2 for example.  I loved the first game.  It thought it was brilliant, though certainly not without some flaws.  However, I still have not picked up the sequel.  And there are plenty of reasons.  First and foremost is the fact that it has been a couple of years since the first came out, and as such I want to play it through again in order to remind myself of the story and characters.

Also, honestly, I don't have time to play it right now because there are other games I am just getting in to.  For example, a month or so ago I finally finished the first Bioshock.  This week, I finally jumped in to Dragon Age: Origins.  In the meantime, I have been playing some other old stuff.  As Mass Effect 2 is single player only, I figured there was no rush to get it to play now.

There are other benefits.  I usually get my games cheaper.  Major bugs are usually patched out by the time I am playing.  I can keep my PC hardware a little behind the times, but still enjoy a wonderful experience.

So, I still love games.  But if you ask me about my thoughts on a recently released game, chances are good I haven't played it yet.

But odds are good I will.

The Gamer Dr.

First off, no, I am not going to be doctoring games.  Nor will I be providing docs for games.

I am simply a doctor (MD type there) who loves games.  Hence, the Gamer Doc.

Sure, I have another blog where I could post game related articles.  However, I have a pretty good feeling that those who frequent that site aren't really going to be that interested in reading about games.  So I will keep those articles here.
